Hobart is Gorges

I finally got my pictures to load, but for some reason I can't format them. I apologize for this ugly and out of order layout!

We arrived in Hobart on Friday night, and it immediately reminded me of Ithaca. We flew into a tiny airport(just like Ithaca's), and we walked down stairs to get off of the airplane (I felt like the President). It was dark when we got here, and so driving into town we saw all of these lights with a huge gap in the light where the water was (totally reminded me of seeing Cayuga Lake at night). We were delighted to find that our apartments are much nicer than they were in Perth.

On Saturday morning, we woke up to crisp, fall, Ithaca weather. It’s amazing how the seasons changed instantly just by taking a plane. We walked down to Salamanca Market, a market (obviously) that is set up every Saturday in downtown Hobart. For you IC kids, imagine Apple Fest times 10. It was awesome. There were so many crafts, jewelry, and awesome things to eat, it was overwhelming. I restrained myself to only buying a $4 bracelet, but I have to go back again when I’m in a less thrifty mood.

On Sunday we decided to explore Hobart a little more. Everything is on a hill (Ithaca-esque), and there is a huge mountain that overlooks the city, Mount Wellington (above). Hobart is absolutely beautiful. It has all of these Victorian houses with colorful roofs perched on top of many hills (above). Most of the houses have cute little rose gardens too (above). It makes me think of Europe, though I’ve never been to Europe, so I guess it reminds me of a stereotype of Europe.

We went down to the bay and saw lots of sailboats. We also went into the casino, where I won a net total of $16 on penny slot machines! (see my victorious photo above) Yeah! Not bad considering it was my first time gambling in a casino. Kaitlyn and Cailin were not as appreciative of my win (above), as they did not win anything themselves. They were just jealous.
