Chillin in the Rainforest

The last day we spent at a hostel in Cape Kimberley (above). We spent a good deal of the day hanging out on the beach. I woke up early to catch the sunrise over the water, which was awesome (above). Later that day we just laid out on the beach (above, photo courtesy of Brittany). We couldn’t go swimming, because it is jellyfish season (above). There are many species of jellies that can kill you here, so we didn’t take any chances. There were tons of sand dollars on the beach, which I had never actually seen before (above). I collected lots to take home.

We spent the rest of the day hanging around the hostel and taking in all of its jungle creatures. There were these awesome pink poof flowers all over the place (above). There were lots of umbrella palms, which actually do keep you dry (above). Everywhere you stepped, little frogs would hop away. Some were as small as a quarter (above, the one in camoflauge, circled). Others were bigger, and they were all really cool (above). Little lizards crawled in the lights to stay warm (above). Outside of our room, there was a huge spider (above, about the side of my hand). That was creepy. But the coolest animal we saw was this monitor, in the same family as a komodo dragon. He was more than 3 feet long, and was just chillin by the pool at our hostel. Pretty crazy.

Then we drove back to Cairns. We flew home to Melbourne, ending our crazy, awesome, and wet adventure.
