The Franklin Institute Down Under Style: Sydney Day 4

Since we only had until 2 pm before we had to catch our shuttle to the airport, we spent our day in the Powerhouse Museum (above). It was very similar to the Franklin Institute (one of my favorite museums), with lots of hands on displays.

One exhibit chronicled design through time. So there was everything from a colonial style dress to 60’s pop-art inspired couches (above) to modern fashion designs (above). There were some pretty cool things.

Another exhibit was a giant ball maze contraption for little kids to play with (above), and there were lots of things for people of all ages to play with. In the science section, there was one area where you made colored shadows (above), and there was one of those cool electricity ball thingys (above). It was very fun to play with all of the exhibits. There was an exhibit about Australian innovations, including an ergonomic violin (above), which I thought was really cool.

There were multiple modes of transportation showcased throughout the museum, including an old train (above) and a horse-drawn fire engine (above). My favorite part of the whole place was the space exhibit, which had a model of a NASA space shuttle (above). You could walk inside and see the astronauts’ living quarters (above) including their beds (vertical since there is no gravity it doesn’t matter), vacuum operated toilets, and exercise machines (also vertical).

We grabbed a very yummy lunch in Chinatown (above), and said our last goodbye to Sydney (above). We landed back in Hobart at its very tiny airport. So small that there is one flight at a time in the airport, and you get off of the plane using stairs (above).

I was sad to leave Sydney, because there’s a lot more to do there. It was a very cool city for sure, though it’s hard to get a good impression of it since we were just tourists and not long-term residents.

Oh, and Nemo says hello.
